Westley Drake
Westley Drake is a proud 14th-generation farmer carrying on his family’s agricultural legacy at Sandy Ridge Farms, Inc., in Newsoms, Virginia. Alongside his parents, Michael and Rebecca Drake, and his wife, Maci, Westley cultivates 1,400 acres of peanuts, cotton, soybeans, and corn while raising livestock. The Drake family’s farming roots date back to the mid-1600s, making their farm a cornerstone of the local community for centuries.
As the seasons change, Westley and his family expertly juggle a variety of tasks. From completing harvest operations to feeding cattle and maintaining farm equipment, they ensure every aspect of their operation runs smoothly. Winter months bring additional focus on strategic planning, with Westley analyzing data, finalizing year-end records, and preparing for the next growing season. The recently expanded farm shop provides a heated, well-lit space to repair and upgrade machinery, ensuring readiness for the year ahead.
Westley is also committed to lifelong learning, using downtime to attend seminars and workshops that keep him at the forefront of modern farming practices. His dedication to innovation and sustainability reflects his passion for agriculture and his role in continuing the Drake family’s rich farming tradition.
